Health care and social services

For health care and social services in the town of  Närpes the following target applies: ”Activities should be equal, economically sustainable, effective and environmentally adaptable”.  The focus must be on preventive care, early intervention and rehabilitation. Services should be based on a holistic view of the individual, which implies a respectful and empathic treatment, accessible services given at the right time at the right level.

Kust-Österbottens samkommun för social- och primärhälsovård/Rannikko-Pohjanmaan sosiaali- ja perusterveydenhuollon kuntayhtymä, K5, is responsible for social and primary health care in Närpes. K5 orders the services, while Närpes health care and social services department is responsible for the production at different locations in the town.

Some primary health services are sold to the town of Kaskinen.

The administration and some of the social services are located in the Town Hall in the town centre. The Health Centre is located next to the Town Hall and in close connection there are also old-age homes and assisted living and dementia residences.

In Pörtom, about 35 km from the town centre, there is an assisted living residence and a health station, in Övermark a combined assisted living/old-age home, an assisted living residence and a health station. In Töjby and in the Finby school centre there are also health stations.

Home care (combined home medical care and services) and other support services operate in the whole town. The health care and social services department also has access to its own laboratory and X-ray facilities with the possibility of X-ray consultation.

Dental care is offered to all inhabitants by five dentists at four locations.

The department is also responsible for child and family care with social work activities, handicap services, maternity and child health guidance and school health care.
Day care is now the responsiblity of the education department.

The Health Centre hospital has 31 beds and offers medical care for acute illnesses, aftercare for patients in specialized medical care, rehabilitation, respite care as well as palliative care.

At the old-age homes and assisted living residences there is a total of 247 beds or residential places. The dementia residence has 19 residential places.

The health care and social services department has meals services through kitchens in Pörtom, Övermark and the town centre.

The health care and social services department has a permanent staff of about 270 employees. Moreover there are office, kitchen and cleaning staff as well as substitutes.

The service structure in health and social sevices has become more focused on outpatient care.
